March's Birthstone:
Aquamarine
Aquamarine is the blue to
greenish blue to bluish green variety of beryl. This stone is considered to be the symbol
of happiness and everlasting youth.
The name aquamarine comes
from a Latin word meaning "sea water," because its color resembles the blue of
the sea.
Most aquamarine gemstones
come from Brazil, but some are found in Madagascar.
Most aquamarines are free of
internal imperfections. They can be cut into many shapes, and they are particularly
attractive when set in white gold or platinum.
