September's Birthstone: Sapphire

Sapphires are members of the corundum family and are related to rubies. A sapphire can be any color other than red. Ancient kings believed sapphires protected them from harm and envy. The Persians believed that the earth rested on one great sapphire, the color of which was reflected to give the sky its blue color. Sapphires also serve as a symbol of truth and constancy.
